Story time outside is a hit and miss. Sometimes they want to sit and listen in a group, one or two sit on the swing and listen and a few are sitting in the sandboxes. Then after I'm done reading you always have a kidlin that wants to take a closer look. Hayseed loves the book b/c it has a dinosaur in it. Curly Top makes up another story. All in all nothing beats reading outside.
As the kidlins were helping H. Dean prep the flowerbeds I got a giggle out of these 2 but I guess someone has to analyze the job.
What fun it is to be in charge of the garden hose. The kidlins each take turns, fairly well, to fill the tubs. Owl got carried away and decided to take a different approach. Other then cooling off, I see the strengthening of hand muscles. A spray handle preps little hands for writing skills when the time it right.
We had the experience watching our sceptic tank being cleaned out. Yuck. It stuck. But the kidlins never seen this before. So you can imagine the questions. Curly Top wanted to know where it goes after he puts it into the tank truck. H. Dean even held her hand but she wasn't brave enough to ask. He didn't give her a good answer but he did tell H. Dean.
I love how the kidlins pair off to play. I have noticed of late that it's by age. Lol, maybe it's b/c they understand each other. The 1 to 2 yr. olds just don't have the vocabulary to understand what they are saying but it sure seems they know what they're talking about. The conversation takes on a whole meaning.
We were stuck inside for the morning b/c it rained last night. I wanted to wait for Mother Nature to do her job and dry up some the grass or wet spots. I just wasn't in the mood to clean anyone up. So that morning we made play dough. I scented it with Citrus Fresh and Cedarwood oils. A change of pace.
I love catching moments of observations, sharing shells, tag, fort building and adventures of pretending play. The quite time of summer and laying out on a blanket.
Summer heat equals water fun. I try to let the kidlins use the water hose on their own with supervision. Everyone once to use it and not everyone wants to get wet. So I needed to make sure things went well.
Been busy with ramp set ups of late. A lot of communicating went on. It was nice to hear how they worked together. Organizing the tubs/blocks, placing the ramps, asking for help, figuring out who's turn is it and making changes. I think how this form of play is a great example of learning and social skills in progress. Future contractors, labors or engineers growing in my backyard.
The horse swings are a new addition. It might be a bit of a struggle to get on but once in the saddle the race is on. Large motor skills are being used to the max.
The kidlins have been keeping an eye on the garden. They can't wait. Showing them which are weeds and veggies. Kidlins love watering the garden so it will never go dry.
Normally the kidlins race cars down the stairs. Today, Snickers used blocks. It was quite a task. He would line the blocks up and then let them go. He would watch how they slid and landed on the floor. He worked on this for 35 mins.. What a busy little mind at work.
As of late we have been getting a lot of rain. I like to let the kidlins play in the rain but when it's to early in the spring in MN it's a cold rain. But once it warms up we out the door. The rain might stop us but the mud doesn't.
We had to get out. So we were just suppose to run around some trees for a few minutes and come b/c it's really wet out. Well, that didn't happen. We found mud puddles.
Then H. Dean need help hooking up the wagon, not really. He even asked what to do b/c the hole didn't line up to put the pin in. What does Hayseed do? Goes in the back and pushes. After that we all stand in a safe place so H. Dean can see all of us. We teach the children farm safety b/c they our country kids.
Then we headed to the playground. By this time I gave up to keep the kidlins from getting muddy. They enjoyed mud time. How could I say no to them. Had to pull a few kidlins out of the mud.
Owl even had to pull the tractor out of the mud with a rope, just like dad did when he got his stuck.
Hayseed played with the cone in his own created way.
Curly top checked out the garden.
Sugar Plum even joined us outside. She loves being out here.
Needed some quite time after playing hard.
The girls had fun rolling off the balls. I could hear giggle in the next room. Snickers join them after 30 mins.
This is what happens when we get stuck inside due to rain. H. Dean gets crazy with clothes pins and hair curlers.
Brothers sharing ice cream.
I get a kick out of how the kidlins pair up. Monkey see monkey do.
We have been getting out and enjoying our playtime. I hear so many giggles to match the fresh air. Everyone is loving it.
Things are taking shape in the playground. The kidlins are more then happy to help with their play area.
Nothing like getting a hight 5 while H. Dean mows the lawn.
